Literal translation
Chitta gumtalem prapamche — jālem veḍem mamatechem — chitta entangled in prapamcha — became mad of mamatā. Ātām sōḍavīm Pāṇḍurangā — ālem nivārīm tem angā — now rescue-me Pāṇḍurangā — what-has-come ward-it-off from (my) body. Gumtalī chāvaṭī — nāmīm rūpīm jālī tuṭī — entangled the chāvaṭī (chatter) — bond from nāma-rūpa is broken. Tukā mhaṇe chālī — puḍhe vāṭa khōḷambalī — Tukā says: the going-forward — the path ahead is blocked.
What it means
A 3-verse petition for rescue. Chitta-tangled-in-prapancha; mad-with-mamatā; rescue-me-Pāṇḍuranga; chāvaṭī-chatter-broke-my-bond-from-nāma-rūpa; the-path-ahead-is-blocked. Chāvaṭī (gossip / idle-talk) is a precise diagnosis of how samsāra-mind disrupts kīrtana.
For someone today
Tukārām says: chatter-and-mamatā-entangle-the-mind; when-you-can't-move-forward — call-Pāṇḍuranga to-ward-it-off-from-your-very-body.
