A plea for help is strongest when it is grounded in real friendship and a remembered history of having already been protected before.
The verse
अरे कृष्णा आम्ही तुझे निज गडी । नवनीत आवडी देत होतों ॥१॥
अरे कृष्णा आतां राखेंराखें कैसें तरीं । संकटाभीतरीं पडियेलों ॥ध्रु.॥
वरुषला इंद्र जेव्हां शिळाधारीं । गोवर्धन गिरी उचलिला ॥२॥
तुका म्हणे तुझे पवाडे गोपाळ । वर्णिती सकळ नारायणा ॥३॥
Literal translation
Krṣṇa-we-are-your-own-gaḍī — fed-butter-with-love. Krṣṇa-rākhēm-rākhēm — fallen-in-sankaṭa. Indra-śilādhārī — Govardhana-lifted. Tukā: gopāḷas-narrate-all-pavāḍē Nārāyaṇa.
What it means
Verse-4 of dāvānala-grasana cluster. O Krṣṇa! we are your own close-companions; we fed you butter with love. O Krṣṇa! save us — somehow! We've fallen into sankaṭa. When Indra rained the stone-shower, you lifted the Govardhana mountain. Tukā says: the gopāḷas narrate all your praises, Nārāyaṇa. The petition-ground deepens: (a) friendship-history (we fed you butter); (b) prior-rescue-precedent (Govardhana-lift in the Indra crisis). Pair with the broader Govardhana-narrative.
For someone today
The cowherd friends remind Krishna of their long, affectionate bond, telling him they are his own companions who fed him butter out of love, and now beg him to save them from the danger closing in. They point to a precedent: when Indra once sent down a punishing storm of stones, Krishna lifted the entire Govardhan mountain to shelter them, so they know rescue is possible because it has happened before. Tukaram notes that the cowherds keep retelling these glorious deeds. Their prayer draws its confidence not from abstract faith but from a real relationship and a remembered history of being protected.
मराठी: गोपाळ मित्र कृष्णाला त्यांच्या जुन्या, प्रेमळ नात्याची आठवण करून देतात — आम्ही तुझे स्वतःचे सवंगडी आहोत, प्रेमाने लोणी खाऊ घातलं, असं सांगून आताच्या संकटातून वाचव अशी विनवणी करतात. ते एक आधीचा प्रसंगही आठवतात — इंद्राने दगडांचा वर्षाव केला तेव्हा कृष्णाने गोवर्धन पर्वत उचलून त्यांचं रक्षण केलं होतं, त्यामुळे आताही सुटका शक्य आहे हे त्यांना ठाऊक आहे, कारण असं आधी घडलेलं आहे. तुकाराम म्हणतात, गोपाळ अशा सगळ्या पराक्रम-कथा वारंवार सांगत असतात. त्यांची प्रार्थना केवळ अमूर्त श्रद्धेवर नाही, तर खऱ्याखुऱ्या नात्यावर आणि आधीच्या रक्षणाच्या आठवणीवर उभी आहे.
