Abhanga 4268
Handing your worries about the future over to something greater and trusting the goodwill of good people brings a lasting joy that circumstances cannot destroy.
The verse
तुजविण चाड आणिकांची कांहीं । धरीन हें नाहीं तुज ठावें ॥१॥
तरणउपाय योगक्षेम माझा । ठेवियेला तुझ्या पायीं देवा ॥ध्रु.॥
कोण मज आळी काय हे तांतडी । सोनियाची घडी जाय दिस ॥२॥
तुझिया नामाचें ल्यालोंसें भूषण । कृपा संतजन करितील ॥३॥
तुका म्हणे जाला आनंदाचा वास । हृदया या नास नव्हे कधीं ॥४॥
Literal translation
No-craving-for-other — yoga-kṣēma-at-feet. What-āḷī-what-hurry — golden-day-passes. Wear-bhūṣaṇa-of-Name — santas-do-krpā. Tukā: ānanda-dwelt-in-hrdaya — never-nāśa.
What it means
A 4-verse brief-confidence text. I have no craving for anyone but you; that I'd hold such — you know this isn't so. My means-of-crossing and well-being I've placed at your feet. What tantrum, what hurry — the golden day passes. I've worn the ornament of your Name; the santas will do krpā. Tukā says: bliss has taken residence (in my heart); there is no destruction for this heart, ever.
For someone today
Tukaram declares that he wants nothing from anyone but God, and says God already knows this is true. He has handed over the whole question of how he will get by and be cared for, placing it fully at God's feet instead of holding onto it himself. There is no need for tantrums or rushing, he says, each golden day simply passes as it will. Wearing God's name like an ornament, he trusts that the saints' compassion will carry him, and he says joy has settled permanently into his heart, a joy that will never be destroyed.
