Abhanga 4271
When you trust someone completely, you can hand over your whole burden and trust that they already understand your true heart, even better than you could put it into words.
The verse
Literal translation
Sarva-bhāva-told — you-my-alone. You-already-know-antara — make-me-speak-for-sukha. All-bhāra-yours-to-carry — what-can-I-say. Svabhāva-picks-hita-with-kautuka. Tukā: you-know-antara-svabhāva.
What it means
A 4-verse all-bhāva-offered text. I've told you my whole bhāva — you are my alone, by my whole bhāva. Why would you not know the stories of my heart? But you make me speak them for the sake of joy. My whole load is yours to carry — what one (thing) is there for me to say? By natural-disposition, the good and the cause of the good — with delight you pick out. Tukā says: you know our antara's svabhāva, Deva. The doctrine: Lord's-natural-disposition picks-out-the-bhakta's-good-with-delight; the bhakta needs only to acknowledge.
For someone today
Tukaram says he has laid his whole heart bare before God, holding nothing back, because God is truly the only one he trusts completely. He wonders aloud why God, who already knows every thought inside him, still asks him to put it into words, and realizes it is simply for the joy of that exchange. Since God carries the entire weight of his life anyway, Tukaram feels there is little left he actually needs to say. He notices that God, by his own loving nature, delights in sorting out what is genuinely good for him, and closes by trusting that God already understands his deepest, truest disposition better than he could ever explain it himself.
