Abhanga 4337

This rare human life is the moment to give up crooked, self-defeating pursuits and take the one straight path toward God.

When you realize how rare and precious your human life is and want to stop wasting it.
When you keep chasing goals or schemes that only lead to more trouble.
When you crave a simple daily practice that brings genuine joy instead of endless complication.

Literal translation

Bahutām janmām antīm janmalāsī narā — Deva tūm sōirā karīm ātām: after many janmas you are born a nara — now make Deva your sōirā. Karīm ātām bāpā svahitācā svārtha — anarthāchā artha sāmḍīm ātām: now, bāpā, do the svārtha of svahita — abandon the artha of anartha. Sāmḍi ātām kuḍī kalpanechī vāṭa — mārga āhe nīṭa Paṇḍharīchā: abandon the kuḍī kalpanā-path — Paṇḍharī's path is straight. Paṇḍharīsa jāve sarva sukha ghyāve — rūpa te pāhāve viṭevari: go-to-Paṇḍharī, take-all-sukha — see-rūpa on-vīṭā. Viṭevari nīṭa ānandāchā kanda — Tukā nāche chanda nāma-ghōṣe: on-vīṭā straight ānanda-kanda — Tukā dances to chanda of nāma-ghōṣa.

What it means

A 4-verse human-birth-rare-take-Paṇḍharī-path urgency text. Human-birth came after many janmas — make Deva your sōirā now; abandon the kuḍī-kalpanā-path; only Paṇḍharī's path is straight; see the rūpa on the vīṭā; Tukā dances to nāma-rhythm.

For someone today

Tukārām urges: this human birth is rare-and-late; choose the straight Paṇḍharī-path now; dance to nāma-ghōṣa.
