Literal translation

What it means

A deva-arranges-secret-tryst-with-non-dual-closing abhang. Four claims:

1. कळों नेदी माया त्याचें त्यास ठाउकें — खेळतोंसें दावी लक्षलक्षापें मुकें — doesn't let māyā know — His own knows His own — plays-and-shows silent to lakhs of lakṣa. The opening-secrecy-claim: the deva does not let māyā (the world's deception, or the gōpī's-husband-of-illusion) know; His own (bhakta) knows His own (deva); He plays and shows (the līlā), silent to lakhs upon lakhs (of others-not-the-bhakta). The deva's-līlā is selectively-revealed.

2. काया वाचा मनें रूपीं गुंतल्या वासना — एकांताचें सुख जाती घेवोनियां राणा — kāyā-vāca-mana — vāsanā stuck in rūpa — takes ekānta-sukha — rāṇā goes. The body-speech-mind absorbed: body, speech, mind — the vāsanā stuck in the rūpa (form, of the deva); takes the ekānta-sukha (joy of being-alone-together); the rāṇā (king, the deva) goes. The deva-as-king-going-for-secret-meeting.

3. कळों नेदी घरिच्या करी गोवूनी चोरी — हातोहातीं नेती परपरत्या दुरी — doesn't let homemates know — does cōrī by gōvī — hand-to-hand takes — para-paratā far. The secret-tryst image: doesn't let the homemates know; does cōrī (theft, here = stealing-away) by gōvī (entanglement); takes the bhakta hand-to-hand, para-paratā (beyond-the-beyond), far. (Para-paratā — beyond-the-beyond, recurring Tukaram phrase; cf. 386.)

4. एकाएकीं तेथें नाहीं दुसरें भिन्न — तुका म्हणे एका नारायणा वांचून — in the one — no second-different — Tuka says: one Nārāyaṇa alone. The closing-non-dual-claim: in the ēkāēkīm (oneness) — there is no second-different; Tuka says: one Nārāyaṇa alone. The secret-tryst is non-dual-union; not bhakta and deva but only Nārāyaṇa. (Compare 354 all is one's vīṇa, where is bhinna-abhinna; same non-dual register inside Vaiṣṇava-bhakti-frame.)

This abhang names the deva-secret-tryst-and-non-dual-truth register:

1. The deva's līlā* is selectively-revealed. Kaḷōm nēdī māyā tyācē tyāsa ṭhāukē. Don't expect the world to share what the deva shows you; the līlā is for His own to know His own. Hidden from māyā, revealed to the bhakta*.

2. Body-speech-mind get vāsanā-stuck in the rūpa*. Kāyā-vāca-mana rūpīm gumtalyā vāsanā. In the deep-bhakti, all vāsanā gets fixed on the deva's-form; that is the rūpa-vāsanā — bhakti-stuck-desire*.

3. The deva takes ekānta-sukha* — secret meeting. Ekāntācē sukha jātī ghēvōnīyām rāṇā. The deva-king goes for the secret-meeting; don't expect the bhakti-event to be public. Some sukha is ekānta*.

4. Para-paratā — beyond-the-beyond — He takes you. Hātōhātīm nētī para-paratyā durī. He takes the bhakta hand-to-hand, beyond-the-beyond. (Compare 386 para-paratā tūm paḷōnī jāsī*; here, the deva takes the bhakta where He himself flees.)

5. In the ēkāēkīm, no second-different — only one Nārāyaṇa*. Ēkāēkīm tēthē nāhīm dusarē bhinna — ēkā Nārāyaṇā vāñcūna. The closing-non-dual-claim: the secret-tryst, at its depth, is non-dual — there is only one Nārāyaṇa. The bhakta and the deva, at the depth, are not two*.

For today: trust that the deva's līlā is selectively-revealed — don't expect public-confirmation; let body-speech-mind be vāsanā-stuck in the deva's rūpa; receive the ekānta-sukha; let Him take you para-paratā far; recognize that at the depth, there is only one Nārāyaṇa**.

This abhang is the non-dual-Vaiṣṇava bhakti register: bhakti-form on the surface, non-dual-truth at the depth. Compare 354 Viṣṇu-maya kharē jaga, varṇa-dharma khēḷa.

मराठी: ही ओवी deva-secret-tryst-and-non-dual-truth register नाव सांगते:

1. Deva ची līlā* selectively-revealed. कळों नेदी माया त्याचें त्यास ठाउकें. जग सोबत share करायचं नाही expect जे देव तुम्हाला दाखवतो; Līlā His own ला His own कळायला. Māyā पासून hidden, bhakta ला revealed*.

2. Body-speech-mind rūpa मध्ये vāsanā*-stuck. काया वाचा मनें रूपीं गुंतल्या वासना. Deep-bhakti मध्ये सर्व vāsanā देव-form वर fix; Rūpa-vāsanā — bhakti-stuck-desire*.

3. Deva ekānta-sukha* घेतो — secret meeting. एकांताचें सुख जाती घेवोनियां राणा. Deva-king secret-meeting साठी जातो; Bhakti-event public असायचं expect नका. काही sukha ekānta*.

4. Para-paratā — beyond-the-beyond — तो नेतो. हातोहातीं नेती परपरत्या दुरी. तो bhakta ला hand-to-hand, beyond-the-beyond नेतो. (386 para-paratā tūm paḷōnī jāsī; इथे deva स्वतः जातो तिथे bhakta ला नेतो*.)

5. Ēkāēkīm मध्ये no second-different — फक्त एक Nārāyaṇa. एकाएकीं तेथें नाहीं दुसरें भिन्न — एका नारायणा वांचून. Closing-non-dual-claim: Secret-tryst depth मध्ये non-dual — फक्त एक Nārāyaṇa. Bhakta आणि deva depth मध्ये दोन नाहीत*.

आज: Deva ची līlā selectively-revealed trust करा — public-confirmation expect नका; Body-speech-mind देवाच्या rūpa मध्ये vāsanā-stuck होऊ द्या; Ekānta-sukha receive करा; तो तुम्हाला para-paratā far घेऊ द्या; Depth मध्ये फक्त एक Nārāyaṇa ओळखा.

Non-dual-Vaiṣṇava bhakti register: Surface वर bhakti-form, depth वर non-dual-truth. 354 Viṣṇu-maya kharē jaga compare.
