Abhanga 740

Bow to every being without exception, and let go of the distinctions that separate you from others, because dissolving that separateness is itself the truth the Vedas point to.

When I will salute all bhūtas — entirely — and you have to recognize this register

When bhāvanā of Nārāyaṇa at every step; bhēda smelted out — and you accept this image

When no other-sanga remains then — and you receive this final image

The verse

वंदीन मी भूतें । आतां अवघीं चि समस्तें ॥१॥ तुमची करीन भावना । पदोपदीं नारायणा ॥ध्रु.॥ गाळुनियां भेद । प्रमाण तो ऐसा वेद ॥२॥ तुका म्हणे मग । नव्हे दुजयाचा संग ॥३॥

Literal translation

Vandīna — bhūtēm — now — avaghīm ci samastēm. Your — bhāvanā — hold — padōpadī — Nārāyaṇa. Smelting — bhēda — pramāṇa — such — Vēda. Tuka says: then — no — dujayācā sanga.

मराठी: मी सर्व-भूतांना वंदन करीन — आतां अवघीं समस्तें. तुमची भावना धरीन — पदोपदीं, नारायणा. भेद गाळून-काढून — तो च प्रमाण — असा वेद. Tuka म्हणे: मग — दुजयाचा संग नव्हे.

What it means

A vandīna-mī-bhūtēm-bhāvanā-of-Nārāyaṇa-everywhere-bhēda-smelted-Veda-pramāṇa-no-other-sanga abhang. Vandanā-to-all-bhūtas register. Three claims:

मी-सर्व-भूतांना-वंदन-करीन — समस्तें — तुमची-भावना-padōpadī-Nārāyaṇa. Vandanā-to-all-bhūtas-and-Nārāyaṇa-bhāvanā-everywhere-claim. I willvandanā(salute) thebhūtas(beings); now,avaghīm ci samastēm(all-of-them, entirely); I will hold Yourbhāvanā(conception, presence); padōpadī (at every step), Nārāyaṇa. Salute-all-beings-as-Nārāyaṇa-everywhere.
भेद-गाळून — प्रमाण — असा वेद. Bhēda-smelted-Veda-pramāṇa-claim. Smelting-and-refining-out thebhēda(distinction, separation); that is thepramāṇa(proof, authoritative); such is theVēda. Bhēda-smelted-out-is-Veda's-pramāṇa. (The gāḷuniyā image: smelting the metal to refine-out impurity; here, smelting the bhēda itself, refining-it-out.)
Tuka: मग — दुजयाचा संग नव्हे. No-other-sanga-claim. Tuka says:maga(then) — there is nodujayācā sanga(other-company, the company-of-the-not-self). No-other-sanga-when-bhēda-is-smelted-out.

For someone today

Tukaram vows to bow to every single being, not just the ones he approves of. He holds the presence of Nārāyaṇa in his awareness at every step, in every situation. When you stop drawing lines between beings, treating some as sacred and others as ordinary, that act of erasing distinction is itself what the Vedas actually point to. Once the separation dissolves, no one is left to treat as a stranger, so every company you keep becomes God's company.

मराठी: तुकाराम प्रत्येक जीवाला वंदन करण्याची शपथ घेतात, फक्त आवडत्यांनाच नव्हे. ते प्रत्येक पावलावर, प्रत्येक प्रसंगात नारायणाची जाणीव मनात ठेवतात. जेव्हा तुम्ही जीवांमध्ये भेद करणे थांबवता, कोणाला पवित्र आणि कोणाला सामान्य मानणे सोडता, तेव्हा हा भेद मिटवण्याचा कृतीच वेदांनी खरोखर सांगितलेली गोष्ट आहे. एकदा हा भेद विरघळला की कोणालाही परका मानायला कोणी उरत नाही, आणि तुमची प्रत्येक संगत देवाचीच संगत बनते.
