Abhanga 816
Real inner renunciation can happen quietly, through tiredness and grace, without any dramatic outward act, and it can genuinely free you from the guilt of what you failed to do.
The verse

What it means
A tyāga-without-going-out-Viṭhṭhal-in-mind-tired-sahaja-disenchantment-deha-heavy-with-debt-samsāra-distressed-āḷasa-gone-akartavya-doṣa-removed abhang. Autobiographical-confession register. Three claims:
-
Tyāga-without-going-out-claim. Tyāga has-been-done by me — without my-going-out (i.e., without leaving home, becoming-formal-sannyāsin);anything (in-the-mind), Viṭhṭhal; when tired (bhāgaliyā),sahaja(natural)ubaga(disenchantment) came; without mydharitām(holding-on / deliberately-resolving), thekāja(work, the spiritual-task) came-into-mind. Tyāga-without-formal-renunciation; sahaja-disenchantment-came-from-tiredness.
-
Deha-heavy-with-debt-samsāra-distressed-claim. Thedehabecamejaḍa(heavy) withṛṇa'sābhāra(load — debt's-burden); samsāra has-made (me)kāsā-vīsa(distressed, agitated, tortured). Debt-heavy-samsāra-distressed. (Likely-autobiographical: Tukaram's family-debts and samsāra-troubles.)
-
Āḷasa-gone-akartavya-doṣa-removed-claim. Tuka says: theāḷasa-kaḷisa(laziness-element, sluggish-portion) has-gone; theakartavya-dōṣa(the fault-of-not-doing-what-should-be-done) isnivārilē(removed). Laziness-gone-akartavya-doṣa-cleared.
This abhang reads-autobiographically: Tukaram describes-his-own-trajectory — tyāga without leaving home, natural-disenchantment from tiredness/samsāra-distress, deha-heavy-with-debt, and finally āḷasa-cleared, akartavya-doṣa-removed. (The akartavya-dōṣa — fault-of-not-doing-what-should-be-done — is removed by-the-natural-disenchantment-and-bhakti-now-arising.)

For someone today
This abhang names the autobiographical-confession pattern:
-
Renunciation happened without my going out into the world; whatever was in my mind was Vitthal; when tired, a natural weariness with things came on its own. Renunciation and natural weariness.
-
The body grew heavy under the burden of debt; family life left me distressed. Heavy with debt.
-
The sluggishness of laziness has gone; the fault of leaving undone what should be done has been cleared. Transformation.
For today: the devotee confesses that renunciation happened without any formal leaving of home — whatever occupied his mind was already Vitthal; when worn out by family life, a natural disenchantment simply arose, without his deliberately seeking it, and the spiritual task came into his mind on its own; the body had grown heavy under the weight of debt, and family life had left him distressed; but now the sluggishness of laziness is gone, and the fault of leaving undone what should be done has been cleared.
This abhang is one of the most revealing of Tukaram's own life story — a confession of natural disenchantment leading to the clearing of that old fault of neglected duty. Compare 0672, where the same autobiographical tone appears in the story of the village rejecting him and the headman's anger driving him to search for Vitthal alone — but here the trajectory is a positive one: the distress of family life led to a natural disenchantment and, finally, to the fault of neglect being cleared. "The fault of leaving undone what should be done has been cleared" is the precise claim of this transformation.
