Abhanga 3295
When grace arrives almost freely, give yourself fully to its sweetness, because the old weight of the past no longer holds you back.
The verse
सवंग जालें सवंग जालें । घरा आलें बंदरींचे ॥१॥
आतां हेवा करावा सोस । भक्तिरस बहु गोड ॥ध्रु.॥
पाउल वेचे चिंता नाहीं । आड कांहीं मग नये ॥२॥
तुका म्हणे संचिताचें । नेणें काचें राहों तें ॥३॥
Literal translation
Savanga-jāle, came-home from-bandara. Now-do-hēvā-of-sōsa; bhakti-rasa-bahu-gōḍa. Step-spent no-chintā; no-āḍa. Tukā: samchita — don't-know-why-stays-as-kāche.
What it means
A short 3-verse fulfillment-text. The-precious-came-cheap; bhakti-rasa-is-sweet; no-obstacle-now.
For someone today
Tukaram compares receiving grace to precious cargo that has come home from a distant port at almost no cost. Now that this ease has arrived, he says, throw yourself eagerly into the taste of devotion, because it is deeply sweet. Every step already taken has been worth it, and nothing stands in the way now. He even wonders why the old weight of past deeds, which used to feel unbreakable, now seems as fragile as glass.
