Abhanga 3422
Letting go of worldly striving fully, without looking back, is what finally lets you catch hold of God and lose your fear.
The verse
रुसलों संसारा । आम्ही आणीक व्यापारा ॥१॥
म्हणऊनि केली सांडी । देउनि पडिलों मुरकंडी ॥ध्रु.॥
परते चि ना मागें । मोहो निष्ठ जालों अंगें ॥२॥
सांपडला देव । तुका म्हणे गेला भेव ॥३॥
Literal translation
Alienated-with-samsāra — we-have-another-trade. Therefore-abandoned — fell-down-bowing. Doesn't-turn-back — niṣṭha-in-anga. Caught-Deva — Tukā: bhēva-gone.
What it means
A 3-verse renunciation-completion text. We have abandoned worldly trade; we have caught Deva; fear is gone.
For someone today
Tukaram describes reaching a point where he simply grew tired of the ordinary business of worldly life, the endless chasing after money, status, and possessions. He didn't fight his way out of it, he just let it go, bowing down and setting it aside completely, with no urge to look back or return. Once he committed fully, body and all, to this new direction, he found what he was really after, and once he'd caught hold of God, all his old fear disappeared.
मराठी: तुकाराम सांगतात की एका क्षणी त्यांना संसाराच्या नेहमीच्या व्यवहाराचा, पैसा-प्रतिष्ठा-मालमत्तेच्या मागे धावण्याचा कंटाळा आला. त्यांनी त्याच्याशी झगडून सुटका केली नाही, तर ते सहज सोडून दिले, नमून बाजूला ठेवले, मागे वळून पाहण्याची इच्छाही उरली नाही. एकदा का त्यांनी संपूर्ण मनाने, शरीरानेही या नव्या दिशेला वाहून घेतले, तेव्हा त्यांना खरोखर हवे होते ते सापडले, आणि देव हाती लागताच त्यांची जुनी भीती नाहीशी झाली.
