A contented life comes when you can share what you have at home without struggle, freed from the futile chase for more.
The verse
बैसोनियां खाऊं जोडी । ओढाओढी चुकवूनि ॥१॥
ऐसें केलें नारायणें । बरवें जिणें सुखाचें ॥ध्रु.॥
घरीच्या घरीं भांडवल । न लगे बोल वेचावे ॥२॥
तुका म्हणे आटाआटी । चुकली दाटी सकळ ॥३॥
Literal translation
Sitting-eat-jōḍī, avoiding-ōḍhā-ōḍhī. Nārāyaṇa-arranged — good-life-of-sukha. Bhāṇḍavala-at-home — no-words-spent. Tukā: futile-struggle-gone — all-crowding-escaped.
What it means
A 3-verse domestic-bhakti text. Nārāyaṇa has arranged a good life: we sit together and eat without tugging; the capital is at home; no need to spend words; the futile-struggle is gone.
For someone today
Tukaram describes a simple, contented life that God has arranged for him, where he and his family can sit together and share what they have without tugging or competing over it. Everything he actually needs is right there at home, so there's no need to argue or spend words haggling for more. He says the old futile struggle for status or gain is gone, along with all the crowding and jostling that used to come with it.
