Literal translation
Satisfy-with-one-bhōjana — stop-asking-time-and-again. Last-morsel-make-sweet-mother — krpā-vantē-Pāṇḍurangī. Don't-deceive-when-little-one-grown-great. Tukā: bahu-chāḷavāvē — don't-let-anything-stay-behind.
What it means
A 3-verse mother-petition. Let one meal satisfy me; with the last morsel make it sweet, mother Pāṇḍurangī; don't deceive me now, when I've grown — you've strung me along enough.
For someone today
Tukaram speaks to God as a mother, asking her to let one full meal truly satisfy him this time, so he can finally stop asking again and again. He asks her to make even the very last morsel sweet, addressing her tenderly as merciful Pandurangi. He gently insists that she shouldn't string him along any longer now that he's no longer a small child but has grown, and he asks her not to hold anything back this time, since she has already kept him waiting long enough.
Where this applies
- When you've waited a long time and finally ask for real, complete fulfillment instead of scraps
- When you speak to God with the tender, insistent honesty of a grown child speaking to a parent
- When you feel you've matured enough to stop being strung along and deserve full honesty now
- When you ask, gently but firmly, that nothing important be held back from you any longer
