Do not complicate a bond that has already traveled this far together; stay present to each other instead of looking away.
The verse
ऐसा चि तो गोवा । न पाहिजे केला देवा ॥१॥
बहु आली दुरिवरी । ओढत हे भरोवरी ॥ध्रु.॥
आम्हांसी न कळे । तुम्ही झाकुं नये डोळे ॥२॥
तुका म्हणे संगें । असों एक एका अंगें ॥३॥
Literal translation
Don't-make-gōvā-Deva. Came-from-far-dragged-bharōvarī. I-don't-know — don't-close-eyes. Tukā: be-together — one-into-other-anga.
What it means
A 3-verse don't-entangle text. Don't trap me in this entanglement; we've come this far dragged-along; don't close your eyes; let us be one in-the-other body.
For someone today
Tukaram asks God not to create needless entanglement between them, since they have already come this far, dragged along together the whole way. He admits he does not fully understand what is happening, but pleads with God not to look away or close his eyes to it. He ends with a wish for a closeness so complete that the two of them exist as one within the other.
मराठी: देवा, आपल्यामध्ये उगाच गुंता निर्माण करू नकोस, अशी विनंती तुकाराम करतात. आपण एवढ्या लांबून एकत्र ओढत ओढत इथवर आलो आहोत, हे ते सांगतात. मला सगळे कळत नाही, पण तू डोळे मिटून घेऊ नकोस, अशी आर्जव ते करतात. शेवटी तुकाराम म्हणतात, आपण एकमेकांत इतके एकरूप होऊ की एकाचे अंग दुसऱ्याचे वाटावे.
