Abhanga 3526
Real understanding often arrives as silence, and a single moment of conviction can finally settle a restlessness you have carried a long time.
The verse
नव्हतें तें कळों आलें । तरी बोलें अबोला ॥१॥
तुज मज घातली तुटी । एके भेटीपासूनि ॥ध्रु.॥
आतां याची न धरीं चाड । कांहीं कोड कवतुकें ॥२॥
तुका म्हणे यावें जावें । एका भावें खंडलें ॥३॥
Literal translation
What-wasn't-known-known — therefore-bōlē-abōlā. Tuṭī-between-us — from-one-bhēṭī. No-chāḍa — some-kōḍa-kavatuka. Tukā: yāvē-jāvē — broken-by-one-bhāva.
What it means
A 3-verse came-to-know text. What I didn't know has become known — so I speak silence; a break has been put-on from one meeting; now I hold no desire for it — just a charming-game; the coming-going is broken by one bhāva.
For someone today
Tukaram says that what he once did not understand has now become clear, and this new understanding leaves him speechless, choosing silence over words. He notices that a distance has grown between him and God ever since a single meeting, though he no longer chases after closing that gap; it has become instead a gentle wonder he can simply hold. He concludes that the constant back and forth of seeking and losing closeness has finally been settled by one moment of firm conviction.
मराठी: जे आधी कळत नव्हते ते आता कळून चुकले, म्हणून मी आता शब्दांऐवजी शांतता बोलतो, असे तुकाराम सांगतात. एका भेटीपासून आपल्यामध्ये एक अंतर निर्माण झाले आहे, हे ते नोंदवतात. आता त्या अंतराची फार ओढ राहिलेली नाही, फक्त एक हळुवार अद्भुत भावना उरली आहे. शेवटी तुकाराम सांगतात, की सतत होणारे येणे-जाणे एका ठाम भावाने कायमचे संपले आहे.
