Abhanga 4548

Once a person is genuinely filled from within, the outer scramble for more, and the constant divide between self and other, naturally quiets down.

When something meaningful fills you so fully that you stop chasing outside distractions

When inner contentment makes worldly temptations lose their grip on you

When you find yourself seeing others as no different from yourself in a moment of shared joy

The verse

समाधान त्यांचीं इंद्रियें सकळ । जयां तो गोपाळ समागमें ॥१॥ गोविंदाचा जाला प्रकाश भीतरी । मग त्यां बाहेरी काय काज ॥२॥ काज काम त्यांचें सरले व्यापार । नाहीं आप पर माझें तुझें ॥३॥ माया सकळांची सकळां ही वरी । विषय तें हरि दिसों नेदी ॥४॥ दिसे तया आप परावें सारिखें । तुका म्हणे सुखें कृष्णाचिया ॥५॥

Literal translation

Indriyas-samādhāna — Gopāḷa-samāgama. Govinda-prakāśa-inside — outside-no-use. Vyāpāra-stopped — no-self-other-mine-yours. Māyā-covers-but-Hari-prevents-viṣaya. Self-other-equal — Tukā: sukha-of-Krṣṇa.

What it means

A 5-verse yamak-bandha — Gokul-folks-state after-Govardhana. The transformation: (a) indriyas-samādhāna (senses-at-peace), (b) Govinda-prakāśa-inside removes-outer-need, (c) vyāpāra (worldly-transactions) and self-other-distinction stop, (d) Hari-doesn't-let-viṣaya-show (covers-them-from-objects), (e) self-and-other seen-alike in Krṣṇa-sukha. Pair with 4547 (preceding aftermath), 4549 (continuing chain).

For those who keep Krishna's company, every sense settles into peace, because once his light fills you from within, there is nothing left outside to chase. Ordinary transactions and the constant tally of mine and yours simply stop mattering. Even though the world's usual pull is still there, that inner light keeps the lures of the outside world from ever fully capturing attention, and self and other start to look the same, both held equally in that same joy. When something genuinely fills you from within, the outer scramble for more naturally quiets down.

मराठी: जे कृष्णाची सोबत राखतात, त्यांची सर्व इंद्रिये शांत होतात, कारण एकदा त्याचा प्रकाश आतून भरून राहिला की बाहेर धावण्यासारखे काही उरत नाही. नेहमीचे व्यवहार आणि माझे-तुझे यांची सतत चालणारी मोजदाद थांबते. जगाचे नेहमीचे आकर्षण अजूनही असले तरी, तो आतला प्रकाश बाह्य गोष्टींना पूर्णपणे मन काबीज करू देत नाही, आणि स्वतः व दुसरा हे सारखेच दिसू लागतात, दोघेही त्याच आनंदात सामावलेले. जेव्हा एखादी गोष्ट खरोखर आतून तुम्हाला भरून टाकते, तेव्हा बाहेरील अधिकाधिक मिळवण्याची धावपळ आपोआप शांत होते.
