Abhanga 4557
God never lets his devoted go to waste, and holding to his name settles the mind into a security that keeps fear from entering.
The verse
समागमें असे हरि नेणतियां । नेदी जाऊं वांयां अंकितांसि ॥१॥
अंकितां सावध केलें नारायणें । गोपाळ गोधनें सकळिकां ॥२॥
सकळही जन आले गोकुळासि । आनंद मानसीं सकळांच्या ॥३॥
सकळांचा केला अंगीकार देवें । न कळतां भावें वांचवी त्यां ॥४॥
त्यां जाला निर्धार हरि आम्हांपासीं । निवांत मानसीं निर्भर तीं ॥५॥
निर्भर हे जन गोकुळींचे लोक । केले सकळिक नारायणें ॥६॥
नारायण भय येऊं नेदी गांवा । तुका म्हणे नांवा अनुसरे त्या ॥७॥
Literal translation
Hari-with-nēṇat — doesn't-let-ankita-go-vāyām. Alert-Nārāyaṇa-Gopāḷas-godhana-all. All-people-back-Gokul-ānanda-mānasī. Lord-angīkāra-of-all — without-them-knowing-saved-by-bhāva. Firm-conviction-Hari-with-us — niṣbhara-mānasī. Niṣbhara-Gokul-loka — all-by-Nārāyaṇa. Nārāyaṇa-doesn't-let-fear-enter — Tukā: anusarē-tyām-nāmvā.
What it means
A 7-verse yamak-bandha — closing the Govardhana-aftermath cycle. Key theological claims: (a) Hari-is-in-samāgama with the nēṇat (the unknowing-ignorant) — radical-grace claim, (b) Lord did the angīkāra of all — saved them by their bhāva without them knowing, (c) the closing-pattern: Nārāyaṇa does not let fear enter the village of those who follow his Name. Foundational protection-doctrine. Pair with 4543 (Lord-clears-path-ahead), 4556 (preceding chain).
For someone today
God stays close even to those who don't fully understand him, and he never lets those devoted to him go to waste. Without the villagers even realizing it, he saved them simply because of the faith in their hearts. That experience gave them a lasting certainty: Hari is with us, and their minds finally settled into deep security. Tukaram says this is the promise for anyone who holds to God's name: fear is not allowed to enter that person's home.
